Attorney General Jeff Jackson is suing the U.S. Department of Education after it ended nearly $50 million in funding for rural and low-income schools serving 23,000 students.

He claims the cancellation on Dec. 31 violates federal law — risking program cuts and staff layoffs.

The Lenoir-Rhyne men’s basketball team won against UNC Pembroke 83-67 (with Junior Hodnett scoring a career-high 20 points and Blessin Kimble adding 17 off the bench) in a rematch of last year’s regional championship.
