GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Attorney General Jeff Jackson is suing the U.S. Department of Education after it ended nearly $50 million in funding for rural and low-income schools serving 23,000 students. He claims the cancellation on Dec. 31 violates federal law — risking program cuts and staff layoffs. WHKY
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Lenoir-Rhyne men’s basketball team won against UNC Pembroke 83-67 (with Junior Hodnett scoring a career-high 20 points and Blessin Kimble adding 17 off the bench) in a rematch of last year’s regional championship. WHKY
- ➤ On January 1, the Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Basketball team ended 2025 with a 79-53 win over King University, as Aaliyah El scored 19 points and Abigail Brown added 14. The Bears will host Newberry on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 2:00 p.m.—improving to an 8-4 record. WHKY
