  • Catawba County today approved incentives for Coley's $9 million + investment that will add 40 jobs; the furniture maker, founded in 2019, already operates a plant in Claremont + and plans to expand its direct-to-consumer business soon.  Hickory Daily Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hickory City Schools released its 2026-2027 academic calendar today and students will start classes on Aug. 24. The schedule outlines key dates for the upcoming school year.  Hickory Daily Record
  • Four school board candidates—Matthew Fox, Tom Dees, Greg Whitener and Tim Settlemyre—answered about 10 questions from 40 local residents on conservative credentials and a potential school merger at a recent Catawba County event.  Hickory Daily Record

  • Catawba County leaders rejected plans for a new shopping center near Food Lion in Sherrills Ford. The proposed site would have included a grocery store, a farm and garden supply store, and additional commercial buildings.  Hickory Daily Record
