  • The Hickory Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Department has introduced Run HKY, a new running initiative featuring events like the Hickory 5K Series and the HKY 100 endurance race on Oct. 17 at Winkler Park. The program also includes a Summer Track Series hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne.  Go Foothills

CULTURE NEWS

  • The City of Hickory is hosting free Black History Month events this February including a roundtable (Feb. 5) at Ridgeview Branch Library, a wax museum (Feb. 21) at Ridgeview Recreation Center, a book talk (Feb. 23) at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library, and an African drumming workshop (Feb. 28).  WHKY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University City Commission and local partners will host the Careers. Well Crafted. Career Fair on Wednesday, Feb. 11 from 3-6 p.m. at Hickory Metro Convention Center; the drop-in event provides interview and résumé help, mentoring & job skills resources.  WHKY

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Feb. 3, 2026, Lenoir-Rhyne track and field athletes earned three SAC weekly awards following the Tryon Banked Invitational. Junior sprinter Sharonda Priester and junior jumper Mackenzie Pringle swept the women's awards + graduate Tobechukwu Nwokocha set an indoor record in the long jump.  WHKY
