- ➤ Catawba Valley Health System announced that Dr. Phil Greene will assume the role of Chief Medical Officer on March 30. He previously served in multiple leadership roles at CVHS and at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory to boost quality and physician engagement. WHKY
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Lenoir-Rhyne baseball swept Carson-Newman on Saturday with scores of 6-4 and 8-4, as Drew Beard went five-for-six to boost the Bears to a 9-1 record. The team will travel to USC-Aiken Wednesday night — first pitch at 6:00 p.m. WHKY
- ➤ Lenoir-Rhyne Softball won back-to-back shutout wins Saturday when Madison Wilson and Faith Carrigan pitched complete game shutouts to beat Young Harris 3-0 and 4-0. The Bears will face Barton in a doubleheader Wednesday (first pitch at 1:00 p.m.). WHKY
- ➤ App State Baseball shut down NC A&T with a 10+0 win at L.P. Frans Stadium on Saturday. The Mountaineers posted key hits from DuPont and Smith and will face Southern Illinois on Sunday in Hickory. WHKY
- ➤ The Lenoir-Rhyne women’s basketball team completed a perfect 13-0 regular season on Feb. 22 at Shuford Arena by beating Tusculum 112-60 to extend its record 17-game win streak. WHKY
- ➤ The North Carolina High School Athletic Association held its individual wrestling championships for girls and boys on Feb. 22 in Hickory — local athletes from several schools, including Yaleen Khang and Nola Walker, earned top finishes in multiple weight classes. WHKY
- ➤ Lenoir-Rhyne’s men’s lacrosse team beat Lees-McRae 19-3 on Feb. 22 — Jack Mulligan scored a hat trick in the fourth quarter and Morgan Madish tallied five points as the Bears out-shot their opponents and forced 21 turnovers. WHKY
