- ➤ 24-year-old Amari Cintalus Miller of Gravel Hill Court in Taylorsville was arrested Saturday, March 22, and charged with felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance on prison or jail premises, and she is being held at the Catawba County Detention Facility without bond—her District Court date is set for today. WHKY
- ➤ Hickory man Fue Lee—30 years old—was arrested by Burke County Sheriff’s Officers and charged with felony injury to public utility property after Brightspeed Internet reported over 6,400 feet of data cable stolen from utility poles near Mineral Springs Mountain Road, with detectives linking him to a silver Toyota Tundra on Nobby Lail Road and setting a hearing for April 10. WHKY

- ➤ A report issued Friday by the North Carolina Department of Commerce Labor and Economic Analysis Division shows unemployment rates increased across the Hickory Metro and the state from January data. Catawba County rose from 3.2 percent to 3.8 percent, Alexander County from 3.5 percent to 4 percent, Burke County from 3.7 percent to 4.3 percent, and Caldwell County from 3.3 percent to 4 percent — with the statewide rate increasing from 3.4 percent to 4 percent. - ➤ On March 23rd, the #8 Lenoir-Rhyne team swept UVA-Wise in a doubleheader, winning the first game 17-0 and the second 7-3 — the wins raised their record to 24-4 and they will host Concord University at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. WHKY
- ➤ On March 23rd, the Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Lacrosse team snapped their two-game slide with a 20-8 road win over Lincoln Memorial. Donovan Powell scored three goals and the Bears now hold a perfect 10-0 record against Lincoln Memorial. WHKY
- ➤ On Saturday, March 23, the Lenoir-Rhyne Softball team split doubleheaders at Coker to earn its 20th win of the season—Julia Mardigian became the 12th player to hit 30 career home runs in game one and Faith Carrigan added a two-run home run for her 7th win in game two. The Bears will return home on Wednesday to host Emory & Henry at 2:00 p.m. from McCrorie Family Stadium. WHKY
- ➤ The App State women’s tennis team earned its second consecutive win on March 23—defeating No. 52 Marshall 4-2 for its first-ever ranked road win that ended Marshall’s 18-match home win streak. The team will play East Carolina Sunday at noon—holding a dedication ceremony for a new scoreboard and courts at 11:40 a.m. WHKY
- ➤ Hickory Motor Speedway hosted the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series on Saturday, March 22nd; Charlie Watson won the first Leapfrog Landscaping Late Model race—and Graham Hollar won the 40-lap feature while Wyatt Miller, John Reynolds, Steve Smart and Danny Trent also took wins. The track will host another round on March 29th featuring late models, limiteds, street stocks—and the Carolina Pro Late Model Series. WHKY
