- ➤ The City of Hickory and the Community Appearance Commission will host the fourth annual Green Fest at the Downtown Hickory Farmers Market on April 26 to celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day. Free booths open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. will offer potted trees (white dogwood, sourwood, sassafras, and black gum), seeds, and recycling tips to help the community learn about environmental care. - ➤ The Chamber of Catawba County recognized 35 government, education, nonprofit and business leaders who completed the eight-month Leadership Catawba program at a graduation on March 20 at Rock Barn Country Club & Spa. The program challenges participants to address local issues in workforce connectivity, small business and entrepreneurship. WHKY

- ➤ Hickory police seized $45,000, oxycodone pills and cocaine during a search on 14th Avenue NE on March 20— a Hickory man was charged. Hickory Daily Record

- ➤ The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is asking the public to review a waiver that would increase funds for weatherization and air repair programs for low-income families—comments will be accepted from March 24th to March 31st and a virtual hearing is set for March 31st at 10 a.m. Go Foothills

- ➤ On March 24th, the Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Track & Field team earned three USATFCCCA Southeast Regional Awards. Alexis Brown set a new NCAA Division II indoor record in the 200m with a time of 22.88 seconds — coach Paris Vaughan and assistant coach Kayonna Lewis earned regional coaching honors. WHKY
- ➤ Seven CVCC women’s basketball players earned Region 10 All-Academic honors after the 2024-25 regular season—standout Danasja Horne averaged 17.8 points and 6.4 rebounds while Jada Whitesides led in shooting percentage—marking the fifth time in six seasons the program has achieved this honor.
