- ➤ Green Fest is planned in downtown Hickory and will offer giveaways such as potted trees, vegetable seeds and flower seeds. Hickory Daily Record
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office warned local residents today that scammers are falsely using Sheriff Don Brown’s name to claim a warrant for arrest and demand payment — law enforcement never calls to demand money and advises hanging up immediately if contacted. WHKY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson advised residents to delete their 23andMe accounts and health information because the firm filed for bankruptcy over the weekend — leaving private genetic data at risk as the state investigates a data breach from October. Go Foothills
- ➤ The N.C. Forest Service and local fire marshals in Caldwell, Burke, Catawba and Alexander counties put an open burn ban in effect on March 21—banning all open fires except safe cooking—and the bans remain until further notice. Go Foothills
- ➤ Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler said today that state lawmakers and the governor approved a new ag disaster assistance program—this plan will give $200 million to farmers in western areas and $111 million statewide to help those hit by Hurricane Helene and the difficult 2024 farm season. He noted that the program will use a framework similar to the Hurricane Florence relief efforts to allow farmers to plant crops this season. WHKY

- ➤ The Texas Rangers announced the Hickory Crawdads’ 2025 break camp roster and the team will head to Hickory in coming days. The roster includes four returning pitchers and 13 position players with players arriving on Monday—an exhibition game is scheduled on April 1st before the home opener on April 8th. WHKY
- ➤ Alexis Brown, a junior from Mableton, Ga., was named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year for the third time after winning the 60m and 200m races at the SAC Championships. She set a record at the NCAA Division 2 Indoor Championship by finishing the 200m dash in 22.88 seconds—making her the first Division II woman to break 23 seconds in the event. WHKY
- ➤ On March 26th, the Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse team upset the 25th-ranked Limestone 16-12, ending Limestone's undefeated conference hopes. The Bears earned their first win over the Saints + improved to a 4-1 conference record while boosting their overall record to 5-5, with a game against Emory & Henry scheduled for Saturday at 3:00 p.m. WHKY
