EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Catawba County trade students competed in the first Battle of the Trades at a community college to showcase skills and prepare for technical careers in local industries — a promising sign for workforce development, with further competitions planned to expand talent opportunities. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On March 26 the City of Hickory discharged 4,500 gallons of untreated wastewater during maintenance at 1016 Old Lenoir Rd NW after debris blocked the sewer + about 4,000 gallons flowed into Frye Creek; the Division of Water Resources was notified on March 27 and is reviewing the incident. WHKY
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The final accounting for the 2025 DICK'S Sporting Goods Classic Basketball Tournament shows each of eight local schools received $4,400 checks from gate receipts, with Hickory High and Maiden winning the boys' and girls' titles respectively, and planning is underway for the 39th tournament (Dec. 28-30).
