- ➤ Matthew Douglas Roop, 34 from Taylorsville, was sentenced on April 3 to 10-to-13 years in prison after pleading guilty to selling drugs that led to a 35-year-old man's overdose death in October 2023 & he will serve his term with the North Carolina Division of Adult Corrections. WHKY
- ➤ Hickory men face drug charges in Burke County after a traffic stop—police found psilocybin mushrooms and suspected fentanyl in the car—according to authorities. The News Herald
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State lawmakers introduced two House bills aimed at expanding consumer access to grade A raw milk and allowing pharmacists to dispense ivermectin without a prescription if passed. House Bill 609 would let eligible dairy farmers sell raw milk products starting Jan 1 with required safety inspections, and House Bill 618 would go into effect on Oct 1—offering pharmacists immunity from legal claims. The News Herald
- ➤ Three Hickory boards and commissions will hold meetings next week—The Parks & Recreation Commission will meet at noon on Tuesday, April 8th at the Highland Recreation Center while the Recycling Advisory Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the Public Services Complex. The Public Art Commission will gather at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9th at the Patrick Beaver Memorial Library—residents can learn about community art plans. WHKY
