- ➤ More than 500 protestors gathered downtown for the Hickory Hands Off rally—protestors said our country is in a constitutional crisis and that this will not stand. Hickory Daily Record
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ 37-year-old William Thomas Ray Miller was convicted in Catawba County Superior Court last Thursday for trafficking fentanyl by possession—his guilty plea resulted in a sentence of six to eight years in prison and a $500,000 fine. WHKY
- ➤ 24-year-old Joshua Nathaniel Mast of Newton was sentenced to serve six to eight years in prison—after pleading guilty on April 2 in Catawba County Superior Court—for trafficking fentanyl on separate occasions and must also pay mandatory fines of $1 million. WHKY
- ➤ 33-year-old Sarah Marie Worth (from Connelly Springs) was sentenced to an active prison term of five to seven years in Catawba County Superior Court on April 3 after pleading guilty to charges that included possession of a firearm by a felon, false pretense for obtaining property, altering a vehicle title, possession of stolen goods and larceny; her habitual felon status from previous convictions in Burke County boosted the sentence. - ➤ The Hickory Crawdads dropped their first contest of the season with a 7-5 loss to the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers on Sunday—Pablo Guerrero went three-for-four and hit his first home run as a Crawdad. The team is 2-1 and will have its home opener on Tuesday. WHKY
- ➤ The Hickory Crawdads beat the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 6-5 on April 6th— it was their second win of the season—with key hits from Rafe Perich and Maxton Martin. They end their series in Kannapolis on Sunday and will open their home season Tuesday at 6 p.m. WHKY
