- ➤ Local author Keith Brown has launched a mobile bookshop in Catawba County to bring his own books and favorite reads to local readers; he said he focuses on a small selection (the books he writes and enjoys) because a mobile shop cannot hold everything. Hickory Daily Record

- ➤ Hickory streetscape improvements will continue until August — residents and visitors are advised to allow extra travel time and follow posted signage near work zones. Hickory Daily Record
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Lenoir-Rhyne women’s lacrosse players Kirra Olson and Anneleise Meyer earned weekly awards from the South Atlantic Conference on April 7 for week nine. Olson recorded 10 points in wins over Tusculum and UVA Wise (Meyer caused 8 turnovers) as the team swept the honors. WHKY
- ➤ Lenoir-Rhyne defeated Barton 9 to 5 Tuesday at Durham Field — head coach Adam Skonieczki earned his 100th win. The Bears improved to a 27 wins, 8 losses and 1 tie record ahead of a weekend series against Emory and Henry. WHKY
- ➤ Hickory Crawdads erased an early three-run deficit to rally for a 4-3 win against Kannapolis Cannon Ballers at Atrium Health Ballpark on Tuesday night — their win moved the record to 3-1 and they will face Kannapolis again on Wednesday at 11 a.m. WHKY
- ➤ Lenoir-Rhyne’s Havyn Spain earned track athlete of the week honors after winning the 200m at the Vertklasse Meeting on Apr. 7 (his best time was 20.75) and finishing third in the 400m; his rankings now are third for the 200 and fifth for the 400. WHKY
