CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Hickory police responded to a shooting at Party City parking lot around 12:45 a.m. on Sunday—seizing guns and collecting shell casings as two men now face 7 counts of attempted murder. Hickory Daily Record
- ➤ 31-year-old Angelina Gabrielle Miller from Creston pleaded guilty to death by distribution for selling Fentanyl linked to Karma L. Greenlee's fatal overdose on March 14—she is sentenced today to 58-82 months in prison after already serving 661 days. WHKY
- ➤ 36-year-old Maynor Javier Yanes Basquez of Hickory, already serving a 67–81-year sentence for previous convictions, received an additional 57–75-year term today after a four-day trial in Catawba County Superior Court for charges of methamphetamine trafficking and fleeing arrest by motor vehicle — the jury reached its verdict in just over an hour of deliberation. - ➤ Gov. Josh Stein proclaimed April as Work Zone Awareness Month and set Work Zone Awareness Week for April 21-25 to remind drivers to obey posted speed limits and avoid distractions in work zones. State officials noted that 47 people died in work zone crashes in our state last year out of more than 217 nationwide between 2019 and 2024. WHKY

- ➤ Today, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services launched its Fight the Bite campaign to remind local residents to use EPA-approved repellents, wear long sleeves, and check for ticks after outdoor activities.
