GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Last week, Burke County Commissioners held a hearing on code violations at 8123 George Hildebrand School Road where nine Marshallese families live in a building deemed unsafe. After a three-hour meeting, they ruled the building must be vacated by May 20—granting a 30-day period for the church to secure funds or a mortgage to cover the estimated $500,000 in repairs.  Go Foothills

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Lacrosse team rallied from a 10-5 halftime deficit to defeat Tusculum 17-13 on Senior Day yesterday at Moretz Stadium — star players Ellie Campbell and Alexa Burghardt led the comeback with five and four goals respectively as the Bears improved their record to 8-7.  WHKY
  • On April 13, 2025, Augusta beat the Hickory Crawdads 5 to 1 at LP Frans Stadium as Mac Guscette collected three hits & Brett Sears pitched four scoreless innings to secure the win while Wady Mendez hit the Crawdads' only home run.  WHKY
  • Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball split their doubleheader on Saturday as the Bears won game one by a score of 8 to 4 with a grand slam and six RBIs by Eli Willen while the Eagles won game two by 4 to 2 to take the series. The Bears will host Barton Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. as they now stand at 33 to 8 overall and third in the SAC.  WHKY
  • On April 13th, 2025, Madison Primm led Lenoir-Rhyne to split a doubleheader with Newberry as the Bears lost 8-5 in game one and won 8-3 in game two using hits that included four runs and three RBI - her efforts along with Avery Kiger’s key home run helped improve the team record to 27-17 in the South Atlantic Conference.  WHKY
  • On April 13th, the Lenoir-Rhyne men’s lacrosse team dominated Tusculum by scoring 25 goals, including 16 in the first half, to win 25 to 9 on senior day. Donovan Powell led the Bears with a hat trick—extending their record against Tusculum to 13 to 0.  WHKY
  • Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball lost 10 to 9 in their series opener at Carson-Newman on Friday afternoon as both teams changed the lead five times—Sal Carricato and Mackenzie Wainwright provided key hits and runs for the Bears.  WHKY
  • On April 13th, the Hickory Crawdads scored four runs in the eighth inning—sparked by Luis Marquez’s triple—to edge the Augusta GreenJackets 8-7 in a chilly contest at LP Frans Stadium.  WHKY
