CRIME NEWS
- ➤ 18-year-old Xavier Jahree Wyatt of U.S. Highway 70 East in Catawba was arrested Monday, April 14 for breaking & entering a vehicle and faces charges of theft, felony possession of stolen goods, assault on a government official or employee and resisting a public officer; he is held at the Catawba County Detention Facility under a $5,000 bond while a District Court date is set. - ➤ 33-year-old Rebecca Nichole Bradley was arrested by Catawba County Sheriff's Officers this morning on West Poplar Street in Conover on charges of drug trafficking, opium or heroin, felony conspiracy, felony maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for controlled substances, and drug paraphernalia possession and is held in the Catawba County Detention Facility (no bond) with a District Court date scheduled today. - ➤ Maynor Javier Yanes Basquez, 36, of Hickory was sentenced to serve 57 to 75 years in prison after a Catawba County jury convicted him on April 10 of trafficking methamphetamine and fleeing arrest with a motor vehicle. He will begin his new sentence after completing a 67- to 81-year term for charges including attempted murder and discharging a weapon. Go Foothills
- ➤ A Morganton man—Dylan James Rogers, 32—was sentenced to life in prison without parole in Burke County Superior Court on April 10th after he fatally shot 41-year-old Brandi Ransboltom Deal and her unborn child during a personal dispute. Go Foothills

- ➤ NC taxpayers now have until Thursday, May 1 to file their federal and state taxes due to federal disaster relief — many in non-disaster counties, except Hickory Metro residents, will see interest on underpayments begin accruing today. WHKY
- ➤ The North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program launched the 'Speed a Little, Lose a Lot' campaign to increase patrols and hold checkpoints to keep roads safe. Data from 2024 shows speeding caused fatal crashes and led to 373 deaths — the campaign will run through Sunday, April 20th. Go Foothills
