- ➤ Hickory welcomes the new Bricks & Minifigs store — it will let locals buy, sell and build Legos while becoming a hub for community enthusiasts soon. The News Herald
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Hickory City Schools reduced the projected cost for Hickory High to $155 million, cutting about $25 million during Monday night's presentation. Officials will soon decide on the funding plan for the project. Hickory Daily Record
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Frye Regional Medical Center received Immediate Jeopardy status after state surveyors documented two incidents during a review that risk Medicaid & Medicare funding, and hospital officials said plans to correct the issues are being prepared. Hickory Daily Record
- ➤ NC Department of Labor advises workers to drink water, rest & seek shade as temperatures reach the upper 80s and low 90s this week, warning that heat-related illnesses can develop quickly in outdoor and non-climate-controlled indoor environments. WHKY
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The North Carolina High School Athletic Association announced that the Lacrosse State Championships will be held May 29 + 30 at Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Moretz Stadium, with Friday games at 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., and 8:00 a.m., and Saturday games at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. WHKY
- ➤ The Lenoir-Rhyne softball team split a doubleheader with Mars Hill Tuesday, losing 5-0 before winning 5-3 with solo home runs from Lani Warren and Ryleigh Pinnix. The Bears, now 31-11, will host Newberry Saturday for senior day. WHKY
- ➤ The Second Annual Catawba County Easter Softball Classic awarded $5,000 in grant funds (each of the five teams receiving $1,000) from Dick’s Sports Goods to support local high school athletic programs. Bunker Hill won the title on April 14 and Serena Thurman was named MVP. WHKY
- ➤ The Hickory Crawdads used a three-run sixth inning to claim a 7–5 win Tuesday night against Salem RidgeYaks at LP Frans Stadium. Aidan Deakins is set to pitch today (first pitch at 11:00 a.m.) as the team seeks to extend its winning streak. WHKY
- ➤ The Caldwell Community College softball team swept Surry in a doubleheader Tuesday, Apr. 14 in Hudson — winning 12-2 and 10-1 with strong plays from key players. The Cobras improved to 31-3 overall and 6-0 in Region X play. WHKY
