- ➤ Lenoir-Rhyne University selected Dr. Summer McGee, Ph.D, as its 13th president after a national search — she will assume the role on July 1 and become its first female president in 134 years. WHKY
- ➤ Today, the CVCC Foundation announced a donation from The Dale Earnhardt Foundation to support the new workforce complex under construction at Hickory Regional Airport. The center — named The Dale Earnhardt Regional Innovation Complex in honor of the NASCAR champion — is scheduled to open mid-2025 and will feature over 98,000 square feet for advanced workforce training programs. - ➤ The Hickory Youth Council is recruiting rising 9th through 12th graders to join the group that advises the City Council on youth issues for the 2025-2026 school year—applications must be submitted online by Friday, May 30—members meet on the third Monday from August through May at city facilities at 5 or 5:30 p.m. Go Foothills
- ➤ On April 10, Hickory became one of 27 North Carolina jurisdictions honored for excellence in communications — it won second place in the Photography—Small Population category for a sunset photo of the Aviation Walk pedestrian bridge taken by local photographer Jeff Yount. WHKY

- ➤ On April 15, the Lenoir-Rhyne men's golf team finished fifth at the SAC Championships at Preserve at Verdae in Greenville, shooting rounds of 296, 298 and 305 for a total of 899, 35 over par—Mads Emil Boas led with a tie for 15th and his eagle on the final hole helped the team jump Catawba. The Bears, now ranked eighth regionally, will wait for the NCAA Regional announcement in the coming weeks. WHKY
- ➤ Hickory Crawdads outfielder Maxton Martin was named Carolina League Player of the Week for his play from April 8 to 13 against the Augusta GreenJackets, when he batted .522 with 12 hits including three doubles, five RBI and 17 total bases in six home games. The team won four out of six games as Martin earned his first weekly honor this season. WHKY
- ➤ Tuesday night, Lenoir-Rhyne lost its home baseball game to Barton by 21-8 in Hickory. Michael Logan and Eli Willen hit home runs as Barton built an early lead with nine runs in the first two innings (helping secure the win). WHKY
