  • Yokefellow’s new weekly mobile shower program will offer homeless neighbors free access to showers and hygiene supplies for 15 minutes and then transition into a Yoke-to-Go mealtime service — a plan that restores dignity for those in need — as part of its ongoing mission.  Go Foothills

CRIME NEWS

  • Newton Police arrested four suspects in connection with a shooting early Thursday, April 17th at 12:48 a.m.—18-year-old Xavier Jahree Wyatt of Catawba, 26-year-old Robert Djan Nelson, Jr. from Hickory, 22-year-old Kenyan Malik Jackson of Newton and 26-year-old Tevyn Nathaniel Hamlin from Hickory—and all are set to appear in court on April 21st.  WHKY
  • 47-year-old Juanita Paige Cooper (Tuesday, April 15 at 11:50 a.m.) was arrested at a residence on 9th Avenue S.E. in Hickory for possessing a schedule II controlled substance and remains in custody at the Catawba County Detention Facility under a $2,000 bond; she had a court appearance on April 16 and will face a larceny charge on May 14.  WHKY
  • Xavier Jahree Wyatt fled on foot after firing a shot during a traffic stop on April 17 at 1:30 a.m. in Newton — police and highway patrol say he is wanted — and a $10,000 reward is offered for any tips leading to his apprehension.  Go Foothills

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Hickory is looking for contractors and handyman services to work on two housing rehabilitation programs funded by federal and state grants—helping low to moderate income homeowners improve repairs like heating, roofing, windows, and accessibility—and offering up to $25,000 for Housing Rehabilitation and $12,000 for Urgent Repair; projects under $30,000 do not require licensed contractors but must have liability and workers’ compensation insurance.  Go Foothills
