BUSINESS NEWS

  • Town Tavern in River Village is set to reopen in early May after being rebuilt from Hurricane Helene flooding in late September—business owners are hiring workers at the site. Queen City Audio Video & Appliances will not return to the shopping center—its rebranding requires a larger space.  The News Herald

SPORTS NEWS

  • On April 20, Lenoir-Rhyne baseball seniors won a doubleheader against Tusculum with scores of 12-9 and 9-3 — they broke a 23-year-old record with their 96th home run and honored 25 seniors before game one.  WHKY
  • Race winners at Hickory Motor Speedway on April 19 included Michael Bumgarner, who won the first late model series 40-lap race, and Tristin Bruce, who won the second, while Billy Snodgrass, Jacob Hayes, Steve Smart and John Reynolds took wins in the limiteds, super trucks, renegades and street stocks classes—The Knights of Destruction will race on April 26 and the next NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series round is set for May 3.  WHKY
  • The App State men's and women's track and field teams broke records at the App State Open in Boone — setting new marks in pole vault and other events while earning 19 first-place finishes. They will compete at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia and the LR Open in Hickory on April 26th.  WHKY
