- ➤ The City of Hickory is hosting events on Saturday, Apr. 25 as Green Fest at the Farmers Market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (with free trees, seeds and recycling tips) and the Multicultural Festival on Union Square runs 4 to 7 p.m. with music, food and cultural displays. Go Foothills
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On April 17, Hickory High School students released about 50 trout into the Catawba River at South Mountains State Park. The trout were raised from eggs in science teacher Kasady Carroll's classroom. Hickory Daily Record

ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Statewide and local burn bans remain in effect as issued by the NC Forest Service and counties in the Catawba Valley/Unifour area until further notice. Data from Signal 14 shows that this April, 724 fires were reported plus 1,677.9 acres burned, prompting ongoing monitoring. Go Foothills
