CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Anthony John Dirosa, a 30-year-old man from Mooresville, was arrested on April 24 by Catawba County sheriff’s officers for felony charges including first-degree burglary, injury to personal property, breaking and entering with intent to terrorize, communicating threats and forcible trespass—he remained in jail at the Catawba County Detention Facility and had a court appearance set for April 25. - ➤ 28 year old Brock Logan Moretz of Hickory was arrested after a 9-1-1 call in the Bethlehem community on April 23 on charges of assault by strangulation and false imprisonment (he is set to appear in District Court on April 28 in Taylorsville). WHKY
- ➤ A Sherrills Ford man was charged with DWI after his SUV struck another car, a stop sign and the Nova Credit Union sign on Wednesday—his alcohol test recorded a 0.2 reading. Hickory Daily Record

- ➤ The City of Hickory’s boards and commissions will meet on Monday, April 28, when the Community Appearance Commission gathers at 4 p.m. in the Third Floor Conference Room (Julian G. Whitener Municipal Building) and the Ridgeview Neighborhood Association convenes at 5:30 p.m. in the Ridgeview Recreation Center (115 7th Avenue S.W.). WHKY

- ➤ On Friday night, the Hickory Crawdads won 6-4 over the Salem Red Sox at LP Frans Stadium, with Wady Mendez hitting two key home runs and the team moving to a 10-9 record. The Crawdads will take the field again today at 7 p.m. as Dalton Pence and Griffin Killander start on the mound—aiming for a third straight win. WHKY
- ➤ The City of Hickory Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Department will host the inaugural Aviation 5K on May 24 at 8 a.m. at Winkler Park—runners will cross the Aviation Walk and Hickory’s iconic bridge while picking up race materials on May 23 or the morning of the race. WHKY
- ➤ The North Carolina High School Athletic Association finalized the 2025 men’s dual team tennis playoff brackets with the first round set for Monday, April 28 and the state championships on Saturday, May 17 at Burlington Tennis Center. Hickory Metro teams are in the 1A and 3A brackets, with the 1A team hosting Concord and higher seeds hosting through the regional finals — the schedule is clear for teams and fans. WHKY
- ➤ The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Golf team qualified for back-to-back NCAA Regionals for the first time in school history after the NCAA announced the news on April 25— the Bears are ranked 25th in Division II and will compete at the South Regional hosted by Rollins College in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida from May 8 to May 10.
