ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A report from the North Carolina Department of Commerce shows Hickory Metro unemployment dropped to 3.7 percent from January levels (Catawba, Alexander, Burke and Caldwell counties improved). The state rate is now 3.8 percent. WHKY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City of Hickory officials have put mandatory water restrictions in place today after the CW-DMAG declared the basin in Stage 2 due to low reservoir inflows. All customers + neighboring areas must follow the set irrigation schedule and usage limits to conserve water. WHKY
- ➤ Due to ongoing dry conditions, Hickory entered Stage 2 of the Low Inflow Protocol on May 1 and now enforces mandatory water use restrictions (odd addresses water on Tuesdays and Saturdays, even addresses water on Thursdays and Sundays). Residents must conserve water to reduce overall use by 5 to 10 percent until conditions improve. Go Foothills
