GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Major Bryan Adams, a native with 27 years of service, will be the new Chief of Police on July 1 after Police Chief Reed Baer retires. He earned a Criminal Justice degree from Western Carolina University and is a graduate of the FBI’s National Academy—his work in key units readied him for the role. WHKY
- ➤ Beginning Wednesday, May 14, contractors working on OLLE Art Walk construction will close the intersection of 9th Street N.W., 2nd Avenue N.W. and 3rd Avenue Court N.W. to mill and resurface the road—detours are clearly marked and the work may take three days weather permitting. WHKY
- ➤ Next week, several Hickory boards and commissions will meet—Community Relations Council on May 12 at 5:30 p.m. at Police headquarters, Parks & Recreation on May 13 at noon at Highland Recreation Center, Recycling Advisory Board on May 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Public Services Complex, and Public Art Commission on May 14 at 5:30 p.m. at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library.
