ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Hickory firefighters responded early Saturday to reports of smoke at LP Frans Stadium (home of the Crawdads) and extinguished an electrical fire at the visitor’s clubhouse by 6:00 a.m., resulting in canceled weekend games with tickets exchangeable for future dates. Go Foothills

- ➤ Lenoir-Rhyne’s men’s lacrosse team beat Florida Tech 15-8 on Sunday — advancing to the NCAA quarterfinals with five goals by Donovan Powell and 13 saves by Owen Peters. They will host Anderson Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. WHKY
- ➤ The CVCC baseball team won 7-5 against Pitt Community College in the Region 10 tournament at Grainger Stadium on Friday. Left fielder Alex Robinson hit a solo home run and recorded a sacrifice fly (with relief pitcher Drew Bryant holding off Pitt’s offense) to secure the victory. WHKY
- ➤ Lenoir-Rhyne Softball lost 3-1 in the SAC Championship Series on May 10 — Kaylan Brown hit her 5th home run as Lincoln Memorial scored key runs late to secure the win. WHKY
- ➤ High school softball games on Friday, May 8, ended with wins for the Wildcats, Bears, Tigers, Cougars and Spartans — they will play Tuesday against Pine Lake Prep, Mount Pleasant, North Surry, TC Roberson and A.C. Reynolds — while the Panthers, Patriots and Indians ended their seasons. WHKY
- ➤ At the NCAA South/Southeast Regional last Friday, Lenoir-Rhyne golfer Matthew McDougall shot a 67 to tie for 11th while his teammate Sean Finan recorded a 73. Cooper Tendick and Drew Zielinski set a tournament record 65 at Valdosta Country Club (Lenoir-Rhyne Athletics). WHKY
- ➤ The Lenoir-Rhyne women's tennis team ended their season on Friday, May 10 with a 4-1 loss to No. 16 North Georgia in the NCAA Southeast Regional (finishing 15-4 overall) and marking their first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history. WHKY
- ➤ On Saturday, May 10, local tennis players competed at the NC High School Athletic Association championships as Hickory's Graham Powers finished second in 5A Singles while East Burke's Luke Borders was runner up in 4A Singles at four midstate venues. WHKY
- ➤ Lenoir-Rhyne’s softball team lost 8 to 5 to Anderson in the SAC tournament on May 10, ending their bid for a three-peat. They will wait until Monday’s NCAA Tournament selection show for their next assignment (per Lenoir-Rhyne Athletics). WHKY
- ➤ Friday high school baseball playoffs featured wins with 3A Patton beating North Wilkes 10-2, 4A R-S Central defeating Newton-Conover 6-2, and 5A Hickory winning 5-3 over West Henderson - advancing teams will play in the third round Tuesday. WHKY
