- ➤ Club Cabaret in Hickory remains open after strong community turnout reversed plans to close the venue — Reeves said Wednesday night showed strong support from local patrons. The News Herald
- ➤ WoodMill Winery is hosting its Strawberry Wine Festival (Saturday, May 16, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) at 1350 WoodMill Winery Lane in Vale. The event celebrates its 20th anniversary (after a fire rebuild) with a 10 a.m. vineyard blessing, 70 vendors, live music and free wine specials. WHKY

- ➤ Attorney General Jeff Jackson and federal partners reached a settlement that stops a secret data exchange used by meat processors to raise prices on chicken, pork, and turkey, affecting stores across North Carolina. - ➤ On Wednesday, May 6, the Rotary Club honored nine Hickory City Schools educators at Lake Hickory Country Club in the Wilmer M. Jenkins Teacher of the Year ceremony. Cindy Brittain of Hickory Career & Arts Magnet High School won the top award and a $1,000 bonus. WHKY

- ➤ Attorney General Jeff Jackson joined 24 other state attorneys general urging credit card companies (American Express, Visa, Mastercard, PayPal and Stripe) to enforce safeguards blocking online vape sales to minors. He said networks must act to curb illegal sales of vaping products not approved by the FDA. WHKY

- ➤ Lenoir-Rhyne softball earned the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Southeast Regional and will face No. 6 seeded Anderson on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at Francis Marion University in Florence + winners will play Friday at 1:00 p.m. in a four-team double elimination bracket. WHKY
- ➤ Seven players from the Lenoir-Rhyne tennis programs earned a spot on the CSC Academic All-District Team + three men and four women received the honor; finalists Rogynskyi, Muderrisoglu and Wahlberg will be named nationally on Tuesday and Wednesday. WHKY
- ➤ Girls' high school soccer playoffs on Monday brought wins and losses across divisions. In 1A, North Carolina School of Science and Math beat Andrews 6-0 to head to Summit Charter Academy on Thursday, while results in 3A, 4A, 6A, and Western Guilford showed teams advancing or ending their seasons. - ➤ Slade Aliff of Lenoir-Rhyne was named the SAC Men’s Golf Scholar Athlete of the Year on Tuesday, May 12 (he achieved a 72.9 average and maintained a 3.85 GPA while earning two top-ten finishes), marking a first for the men’s golf team. WHKY
