- ➤ Authorities arrested 26-year-old Winston Eccleston for first-degree kidnapping after 29-year-old Sadie Tolley, who has ties to Hickory, went missing from the Emma community in January—she later provided key information at the Waynesville Police Department. WHKY

- ➤ On May 24, 2025, Jose Escobar’s RBI single broke a 6-6 tie in the 11th inning and gave the Myrtle Beach Pelicans an 8-7 win over the Hickory Crawdads at LP Frans Stadium—Maxton Martin added two runs. WHKY
- ➤ The CVCC baseball team improved from a 9 to 9 record and won 34 of 41 games to clinch the Region 10/South Atlantic District championship, earning its third trip to the NJCAA World Series in Enid, Oklahoma. Coach Marshall McDonald said the Red Hawks, seeded 11th, will face the No. 6 East Central team on Saturday — they plan to win their first national title. WHKY
