- ➤ Shots were fired at Creekside Apartments—located at 1227 10th St Boulevard—over the weekend when multiple apartments and vehicles were struck, and no injuries were reported; Hickory Police plan to release more details today. WHKY
- ➤ Attorney General Jeff Jackson and the North Carolina Turnpike Authority warned North Carolinians yesterday about a rise in text message scams falsely claiming to be from NC Quick Pass+ the North Carolina Department of Justice is investigating reports that the scams demand payment for unpaid tolls and risk exposing bank account details. - ➤ 54-year-old Woodrow Wilmore of 16th Street Drive NE in Hickory was arrested on May 25 (by Newton Police Officers) and charged with second-degree burglary and larceny; he is held on a $3,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in District Court today. WHKY
- ➤ Brookford Police Chief Willie Armstrong was reinstated despite facing felony charges connected to the decades-old Dee Dee Dawkins case—he said he accidentally left his phone to record a person of interest while reopening the investigation in August to seek justice for the victim's family. - ➤ Matthew Lane, a 19-year-old Massachusetts college student, pleaded guilty today to charges of cyber extortion conspiracy, unauthorized access to protected computers and aggravated identity theft after hacking PowerSchool and exposing private data of millions of North Carolina teachers, students and parents — Attorney General Jeff Jackson said his investigation will continue into PowerSchool’s role in the breach. - ➤ 33-year-old Rebecca Nichole Bradley of West Poplar Street in Conover was arrested May 25 by Catawba County Sheriff’s Officers and charged with second-degree kidnapping, and she is held without bond with her District Court date scheduled today — Tuesday May 27. WHKY

- ➤ With hurricane season starting Sunday, June 1, Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey urged Hickory residents to prepare by checking their insurance coverage and securing important documents as NOAA forecasts 19 named storms—nine hurricanes and four major ones during the season. WHKY
- ➤ Today, Old Lenoir Road is closed from 15th Avenue NW to 12th Street Drive NW for OLLE Art Walk construction and is open only for local traffic and emergency responders+ the closure will last about 60 days. Drivers must detour using U.S. 321 and Clement Boulevard+ the 2.4-mile trail will connect City Walk, Riverwalk, and Aviation Walk segments. Go Foothills
