  • Tickets for 'Four Old Broads' are on sale at The Green Room Community Theatre. The comedy, directed by Hollie Sherrill and set in Magnolia Place Assisted Living, will run in June (Fri/Sat 7:30 p.m. and Sun 3 p.m.) on six dates and promises Southern charm and laughs.  WHKY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Recent rainfall improved conditions in some parts of the metro, but extreme drought affects Caldwell and Alexander counties and severe drought remains in parts of Catawba and Burke counties; residents should check local water guidelines.  WHKY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • 15th Avenue NE in Hickory will close Monday, June 1 at 8 a.m. for storm drain pipe repairs, with a marked detour route in place. The work is to finish by Friday, June 5 at 5 p.m. — drivers should slow near the area.  WHKY

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Hickory High girls soccer team beat South Point 4-0 on Tuesday to win the 5A West Region title. The team now advances to the state championship match Friday in Durham.  Hickory Daily Record
