- ➤ Newton reported a wastewater spill releasing 24,295 gallons of untreated wastewater into Hildebran Creek at 1425 West N.C. 10 on Thursday, May 28 after a pipe failure was discovered at 9:50 a.m.; city crews contained the spill by 12:45 p.m. and observed no environmental impacts. WHKY

- ➤ The Hickory girls soccer team won its first state championship Friday night in Durham by defeating Dixon 2-0. Stephanie Zulueta opened the scoring in the second half and Piper Jillings added an insurance goal to seal the win. WHKY
