- ➤ Appalachian State freshman Jarvis Little placed eighth in the 65 kg division at the U23 Freestyle Nationals in Ohio on June 3 — earning All-American honors and becoming the seventh such wrestler from Boone in four years. He won six of his first seven matches and advanced after a close win over Virginia’s Gable Porter. WHKY
- ➤ Junior Donovan Powell, a Sport Management major with a 3.84 GPA + a three-time Dean’s List honoree, was named the South Atlantic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Scholar Athlete of the Year on June 3rd for his role in a National Championship win as a freshman + he also volunteered at local schools and at the Hickory Christmas parade to support community events. - ➤ Ismael Agreda led the Hickory Crawdads to a 10-1 win over the Columbia Fireflies on June 3rd at LP Frans Stadium — he pitched five innings, allowed one run, and struck out eight — while Maxton Martin had three doubles as the team scored four runs in the first inning; the Crawdads will send Enrique Segura to pitch the next game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. WHKY
