- ➤ A 20-year-old man was arrested in Catawba County for a shooting that injured 11 and killed 1 and was set a $200,000 bond—he was previously charged in another shooting with seven counts of attempted first-degree murder and seven counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Hickory Daily Record
- ➤ A 19-year-old man from Hickory was charged with attempted first degree murder in connection with a mass shooting on June 1 in Mountain View and is being sought by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office—22-year-old Patrick Lee Tolbert from Hickory faces three counts for aiding and abetting underage alcohol possession at a party on Walnut Acres Dr while 21-year-old Raekwon Malik Craig from Taylorsville was arrested on similar charges with a court date set today. - ➤ Catawba County announced it will use about $778,000 from opioid settlement funds to continue its programs next year—one program helps paramedics reach out to people who have had an overdose within 24 to 72 hours after the incident. Hickory Daily Record
- ➤ Hickory City Manager Warren Wood proposed a new budget that raises property taxes and fees to fund $326 million in water and sewer system upgrades—covering 14 projects including a new water treatment plant. The city council approved the proposal on Tuesday and will vote on it on June 17 while costs may be shared with other municipalities. Hickory Daily Record

- ➤ The U.S. Food and Drug Administration raised a tomato recall to its highest warning level—Class 1—over salmonella concerns affecting tomatoes sold in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina, with no illnesses reported.
