- ➤ Hickory firefighter Jake Bridges, who passed away last week, is being transported today from Winston-Salem to Catawba County — his body will be taken to Bennett Funeral Service in Newton. His fellow firefighters will lead a procession that departs at 12:15 p.m. and travels west on Interstate 40 — emergency personnel will be posted at several locations to honor him. WHKY
- ➤ WHKY Radio celebrates its 85th anniversary today as it first signed on June 10, 1940 — when founder Ed Long built its transmitter using a mule and plow. The station moved from Hotel Hickory to the Elliott-Carnegie Library and later upgraded its signal under family management to serve local news and talk audiences. WHKY
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ 35-year-old Brittany Geraldine Lindsay of Rifle Range Road in Conover was arrested Friday, June 6 by Hickory Police for possession of methamphetamine and two counts of drug paraphernalia — she was jailed at the Catawba County Detention Facility on a $5,000 bond. WHKY
- ➤ Four accused shooters from the June 1 pool party mass shooting, where eleven were injured and one was killed, appeared in court Monday on additional counts of attempted first-degree murder—while the sheriff’s office said more charges are expected due to planned gang activity—prompting the district attorney to request that no bonds be granted for the dangerous suspects.
