- ➤ The Morganton man was arrested after a mass shooting occurred in Catawba County on June 1, which killed one person and injured 11 others—he is the sixth suspect charged with attempted murder. Hickory Daily Record
- ➤ Nine people have been arrested for a gang-related mass shooting that happened on June 1 at a pool party on Walnut Acres Drive in Mountain View where 11 people were injured and one man died—more arrests are expected. Hickory Daily Record
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lenoir-Rhyne University is expanding its student food pantry with a generous gift from alumna Kate Esch ’70—relocating it to Cromer Center to offer 24/7 access to fresh food and hygiene supplies for students. Work to convert the seminar room will start this summer and be completed before classes begin on Aug. 25. WHKY

- ➤ On June 11, Catawba Valley Health System donated 400 first aid kits to every patrol car in Catawba County during a ceremony attended by CEO Dennis Johnson and law enforcement from Hickory, Newton, Catawba, Conover, Claremont, Maiden, and Long View. Officers also attended four-hour Stop the Bleed training sessions at SimLab at Catawba Valley Community College — an idea first suggested after a 2024 Charlotte shooting. WHKY
