CRIME NEWS
- ➤ 60-year-old Tommy Manuel Requejo was arrested by Hickory Police on Thursday for felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia – he is held at the Catawba County Detention Facility under a $5,000 bond – and his District Court dates will be held on Monday and June 30. - ➤ Two drug conspirators—32-year-old Hickory resident Ashton Durrell Farley was sentenced to 235 months in prison plus five years of supervised release and 46-year-old Lenoir resident Thomas Eugene Ikard received 60 months in prison plus four years of supervised release—pleaded guilty to distributing fentanyl and methamphetamine after a 10-month investigation by ATF and local police. - ➤ Newton Police Department is asking for help to identify a suspect in a larceny that occurred on June 10 at Marathon Gas Station on Northwest Boulevard in Newton—those with information should call 828-465-7430 or email the department. WHKY
- ➤ On Wednesday, 24-year-old Cody Dean Limbo from Hickory attempted to escape from UNC Health Blue Ridge in Morganton during a medical evaluation when he was asked to sign papers; a deputy with UNC security quickly captured him before he left the hospital and after being cleared he was returned to Burke County Jail with charges including Felony Escape from Local Jail, Misdemeanor—Assault on Government Official, and Misdemeanor—Resisting Public Officer. - ➤ City of Hickory will close its offices, public library branches, and recreation centers on July 4 in observance of Independence Day while garbage and recycling pick-up continue and parks remain open. The City Council meeting scheduled for July 1 is canceled — the next meeting will be held on July 15 at 6 p.m. in the council chambers. WHKY
