CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On June 26, the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office and other local agencies executed search warrants after receiving citizen complaints over illegal vaping sales near schools and seized vapes, significant amounts of marijuana and cash, plus a firearm, from three Taylorsville businesses—investigations are ongoing. - ➤ Court documents identified 63 people in the line of fire at a Catawba County pool party shooting on June 1 that killed one and wounded 11 while some shooters targeted individuals in an attack on the entire gathering. Hickory Daily Record
- ➤ On June 25, officers responded to a 9-1-1 call on Hill River Road in Hiddenite after an assault left a victim with multiple stab wounds — 35-year-old Eric Allen Brewer was arrested and charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury, breaking and entering, and misdemeanor assault on a female, while 38-year-old Robert William Joll was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury and both are out on bond with court appearances set for June 30. - ➤ Head Coach Adam Skonieczki was named the American Baseball Coaches Association/ATEC Sports DII Southeast Regional Coach of the Year on June 26th and earned his second accolade after being named Perfect Game National Co-Coach of the Year last month — he led the Bears to a record 50 wins and their first trip to the NCAA DII Baseball Championship in Cary. - ➤ Registration is underway for City of Hickory’s Youth Tackle Football and Soccer programs. Local residents join free while nonresidents pay fees and first-time participants must drop off a birth certificate at Administrative Offices at 1451 8th Street Drive NE + football players face a $60 equipment fee and a required physical while soccer players attend skills assessments at Neill Clark Recreation Park with registration closing July 30 at 5 p.m. WHKY
- ➤ On June 26th, 2025, the Lenoir-Rhyne Track and Field Teams earned 10 spots on the CSC Academic All-District Team—five from the men’s side and five from the women’s. Two athletes from the women’s team, Miranda Marr and Damyja Ortiz, were named as finalists for the Academic All-American ballot to be announced on July 15th. WHKY
