CRIME NEWS

  • Hickory Police responded at 6:40 p.m. on July 4 at the Deluxe Inn after reports of an unresponsive woman and found Mary Elizabeth Ervin dead from a gunshot wound—authorities have issued a warrant for suspect James David Houser and are searching for him.  WHKY

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, July 5, Caldwell County Post 29 beat Gastonia 3-0 to lead the best-of-five series 1-0 while Cherryville outscored Hickory Post 48 2-1, leaving the latter trailing 1-0 in the series.  WHKY
  • On July 6, the Hickory Crawdads beat Kannapolis 10-5 at LP Frans Stadium — Hector Osorio recorded three hits that drove in key runs for the team's 11th win in 14 games. Caden Scarborough pitched 4.1 scoreless innings — the Crawdads totaled 10 hits and sit a half game out of first in the Carolina League Southern Division.  WHKY
