- ➤ Hickory police reported that a woman was shot and killed at Deluxe Inn on July 4 — authorities are still looking for the suspect in connection with her murder. Hickory Daily Record
- ➤ Hickory Police responded to a report at Deluxe Inn on July 4th when they found Mary Elizabeth Ervin, 30, dead from a gunshot at 6:41 p.m.—they obtained a murder warrant for suspect James David Houser and are now searching for him. Go Foothills
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ NC drivers can delay renewing their license as part of a DMV pause—affected drivers must complete their renewal by Dec. 31, 2027. Hickory Daily Record
- ➤ NC drivers can wait two extra years to renew their licenses because of a new state rule — affected drivers must renew by Dec. 31, 2027. The News Herald
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Kannapolis Cannon Ballers ended their four-game losing streak by scoring four runs in a second inning to defeat Hickory Crawdads 9-2 on July 7 at LP Frans Stadium. Jake Curtis earned his first win in relief—Erick Alvarez doubled twice for Hickory as the loss dropped their record in the second half of the division. WHKY
- ➤ On Sunday, July 6, Caldwell County Post 29 defeated Gaston County 4–2 and led its series 2–0, with game three scheduled for Monday at Gastonia — while Hickory Post 48 lost 12–0 to Cherryville and trailed 2–0 in its series. WHKY
