CRIME NEWS

  • 40-year-old Michael Allen Bumgarner (of Robert Rufty Lane in Catawba) was arrested on August 2 by Catawba County Sheriff’s Officers and is charged with assault by strangulation, false imprisonment, breaking and entering with intent to terrorize or injure and assault on a female while he remains in the Catawba County Detention Facility with no bond and his District Court hearing is scheduled for today.  WHKY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tuesday's meeting will take place at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Julian G. Whitener Municipal Building—councilors will consider a Purdue Pharma bankruptcy plan and Sackler settlement worth $8 billion for opioid funding, a 25 mph speed limit change on selected streets, an increased loan for the Henry Fork facility upgrade, and a rezoning petition for property on 7th Street SE.  WHKY

SPORTS NEWS

  • Hickory FC beat El Farolito 3-2 on Saturday night at Kezar Stadium as nearly 1,000 fans watched the team earn its first national title in its second season— the club will compete in the U.S. Open Cup next season.  WHKY
