- ➤ Authorities issued a Silver Alert for 78-year-old Paul David Jaquith—last seen on Lenoir Road in Morganton and described as a 5-foot-11 white male with short brown hair and brown eyes—after he was expected in Hickory but texted that he was in Charlotte, with a cellphone ping tracking him to Duplin County; he may be driving a 2015 silver Toyota Rav4 with Chicago Bears stickers and officials ask anyone with information to call Morganton Public Safety. - ➤ Deputies from the Caldwell County and Burke County Sheriff’s Offices conducted Operation County Line on August 12 and 13 to stop drug trafficking near county borders—yielding nine arrests, drugs, firearms, and a recovered stolen vehicle. WHKY
- ➤ The family of Timothy Craig Setzer Jr.—shot in August 2023—filed a lawsuit against officers Aaron Caine Travis, Austin Ryan Steele, and Isam Gamal Shamseldin and the city, alleging that he was unarmed and facing away when shot while officers claimed he pulled a handgun as he fled. Go Foothills

- ➤ The City of Hickory's Community Relations Council is seeking grant applications from qualified nonprofits, schools, churches, and tax-exempt agencies for projects aimed at enhancing community ties during the 2025–2026 fiscal year—applications for the Fall grant cycle are due by Oct. 10 at noon and a grant workshop is scheduled for Sept. 22 at the Patrick Beaver Memorial Library's upstairs conference room. - ➤ Nearly one year after Hurricane Helene, emergency personnel in western North Carolina say they are well prepared for another storm after strengthening communication systems and coordinating with neighboring counties—efforts that include updated procedures and backup power plans.
