ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, August 17 at about 7:40 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol said Belinda Diane Sain, a 61-year-old Hickory woman, lost control of her 2015 Harley Davidson on Petra Mill Road near Icard Dam Road in Caldwell County—she died at the scene.  Go Foothills

CRIME NEWS

  • Whitney Sierra Jenkins of Lenoir was arrested on August 14 for felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine — she was released on a $10,000 secured bond with her court date set for September 4.  WHKY
  • Christina Tolley filed a $25 million lawsuit against Hickory and three police officers after her son Timothy Setzer was shot 17 times in a parking lot on Aug. 13 while fleeing from officers — she claims body camera footage and reports show he was unarmed, contradicting the police account.  Hickory Daily Record
  • On August 18, 33-year-old Jasmine Marie Andrews from Newton was arrested by Catawba County authorities for fentanyl possession and held at the county detention facility under a $150,000 bond—her District Court hearing will be set for September 3.  WHKY
  • Brian David Culp, 51, and Sirena Alexis Everhart, 25, from 40th Avenue Lane NE in Hickory were arrested today on felony charges for possession of a schedule II controlled substance—Everhart also faces charges for drug paraphernalia—and are held at the Catawba County Detention Facility with bonds set under $2,000.  WHKY
  • 21-year-old Samantha Lizeth Goicochea of Asheboro was arrested Sunday (August 17) by Hickory police on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, driving while impaired, and felony larceny; she is held at the Catawba County Detention Facility with a $6,000 bond and faces court on Monday (August 25) in both Catawba and Randolph counties.  WHKY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • North Carolina law sets strict open burning rules that allow burning only of natural yard waste—like leaves and brush—and bans trash, synthetic and man-made items. The North Carolina Division of Air Quality enforces these rules and fines violators while residents must burn within allowed hours on their own property.  Go Foothills
