- ➤ Hickory will host Family & Friends Fun Day at Samuel William Davis Sr. Multipurpose Field on Saturday, September 27 from 12-6 p.m. The free event offers relay races, tug of war & live entertainment and is sponsored by Modern Automotive with support from local local churches. WHKY
- ➤ The City of Hickory will hold a Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony on Thursday, September 11 at 10 a.m. in Union Square, led by Mayor Hank Guess, Hal Row of WHKY, and Reverend Antonio Logan—area churches will toll bells at 8:46 a.m. followed by a community moment of silence. WHKY

- ➤ 25-year-old Chandler Montgomery Jackson was arrested Wednesday (August27) at South NC 127 and charged with two counts of conspiracy to traffic heroin—he was held at Catawba County Detention Facility under $175,000 bond and had a District Court appearance on August28. WHKY
- ➤ 25-year-old Javeon Devon Simon from C Avenue SE was arrested by Hickory Police Officers on August 28 and now faces charges including stolen motor vehicle and drug offenses while being held on a $17,000 bond—District Court dates are set for today and September 18. WHKY
- ➤ Catawba County authorities arrested David Jacob Cooper on August 27 for failing to register as a sex offender and violating probation—he is held at the county detention facility on an $8,000 bond with court dates set for Thursday and September 18. WHKY

- ➤ The African Children’s Choir will perform on September 7 at 7:00 p.m. at First Methodist Church in Conover to celebrate over 40 years of transforming lives through music and hope — the group, composed of children ages 8 to 10 from Africa, now tours over 100 cities to share uplifting stories. - ➤ Renew NC finished repairing the first home approved for assistance under its Single-Family Housing Program on August 27 — the first in North Carolina to receive aid after Hurricane Helene. - ➤ On Tuesday, August 28, the Hickory Crawdads lost 11-2 to the Columbia Fireflies on the road. Marcos Torres hit a solo home run in the second inning to give Hickory a 1-0 lead, but Columbia scored three runs in later innings to win the game and drop the Crawdads to 30-25 for the second half—leaving them 8.5 games behind first with 11 games remaining.
