  • Attorney General Jeff Jackson said on August 29 that AmeriCorps agreed to release the funds it had withheld for western North Carolina recovery. The funds will let programs like Project MARS — which delivers supplies and meals — restart work to help families after Hurricane Helene.  WHKY

  • Lenoir-Rhyne University is hosting the Fall Bears Huddle at City Walk Brewing on Tuesday, September 2nd at 6:00 p.m.—head coaches from all fall sports, including new hires Justin Maullin and Bob Braman, will speak—giving Hickory residents a first look at the season's plans.  WHKY

  • On Friday, August 29, 2025, the second-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Triathlon team opened its season at the ETSU Buccaneer Collegiate Cup by finishing third among six teams as the first DII team to cross the finish line. Zoila Sicilia led the Bears with a fifth place finish at 28:04.75—paving the way for their next race on Sunday, September 14.  WHKY
  • The Caldwell County Sports Hall of Fame announced its Class of 2025 with four new inductees honored for their contributions to local sports. The induction ceremony will be held on November 3 at the J.E. Broyhill Civic Center with tickets costing $25.  WHKY
