COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Hickory Parks, Recreation + Sports Tourism Department and Walkin’ Roll Activities League will host the free Spirits of Service + Good Deeds Trunk or Treat on Tuesday, Oct. 14 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at L.P. Frans Stadium at 2500 Clement Boulevard NW, where families will collect candy, meet local helpers, and learn about public service jobs.  WHKY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The start of the I-40 Exit 118 project in Hildebran is delayed as the North Carolina Department of Transportation shifted priorities after Hurricane Helene hit western North Carolina—new timeline revisions are expected soon.  Hickory Daily Record

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lenoir-Rhyne’s Bob Braman was inducted into the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame on September 12—an honor that recognized his long career in track and field coaching. He un-retired earlier this year after retiring in 2024 and had built a 41-year career coaching programs in Florida.  WHKY
  • Lenoir-Rhyne's Volleyball team ended yesterday's opening day in Florida at the Flagler Invitational with a 1-1 record after a 3-1 loss to Embry-Riddle and a 3-1 win over Flagler—Kayli Cleaver tied her career high with 20 kills. They will close out the Invitational today with matchups against Lees-McRae at 10 a.m. and Ashland at 4 p.m.  WHKY
  • On Friday, September 12th, high school football games in the Western Foothills 4A/5A Conference ended with East Lincoln scoring 56, Maiden 49, Hickory 42, Bandys 34, Bunker Hill 0 and Newton-Conover 14 — while non-conference matchups posted scores of Statesville 27, Alexander Central 14, Freedom 20, T.C. Roberson 14, Polk County 35, Patton 14, South Caldwell 16, North Gaston 12, St. Stephens 49 and North Iredell 42.  WHKY
  • Lenoir-Rhyne men's soccer lost 2 to 0 to Lincoln Memorial on September 12th in their South Atlantic Conference opener—Lincoln Memorial scored first after 31 minutes and broke a five-game losing streak to the Bears. The Bears out-shot their opponent 13 to 8 but managed only two shots on target, which contributed to the loss.  WHKY
