Ashure Ministry (formerly Eastern Catawba Cooperative Christian Ministry) purchased a new cargo van yesterday using funding from Newton's nearly $958,000 Rural Economic Development Block Grant.
The van will help staff collect donated food to fight food insecurity across Catawba County.

North Carolina consumers received nearly $2 million in restitution and $7.5 million in debt relief following a $694 million settlement with Credit Acceptance Corporation (benefiting about 1,300 consumers) on Saturday, Sept.
19. The deal will enforce new lending standards for high-risk auto loans.
