- ➤ Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute received a $20,000 donation from The Brandon Eugene Church Legacy Foundation—presented at Big B’s Third Annual Golf Tournament at Lake Hickory Country Club. College leaders said the contribution will support the Culinary Arts program and students. Go Foothills
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new North Carolina law signed by Gov. Stein on Sept. 30 allows 16- and 17-year-olds who held a limited provisional license for six months to apply online for a full provisional license, which is set to shorten DMV lines—other rules let drivers renew licenses online twice consecutively if they meet specific conditions. - ➤ The Lenoir-Rhyne women’s soccer team lost their first conference game on October 2 as the Anderson Trojans scored a 6th minute goal and held a solid defense despite 20 shots from the Bears—forcing the team, now 6-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play, to prepare for a home game against Newberry at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Hickory. WHKY
- ➤ Graduate student Izzi Wood scored her 30th goal to tie the all-time record for Appalachian State women's soccer in a one to one draw with Coastal Carolina on October 2 at the CCU Soccer Complex. App State had a record of five wins, five losses, and two ties and will face James Madison on Sunday at 1 p.m. on ESPN+. WHKY
- ➤ The Lenoir-Rhyne men’s soccer team earned a 1-1 draw with No. 4 Anderson on October 2—Oskar Dahlberg scored the tying goal in the 72nd minute to secure their first point in the SAC standings. The Bears will play at home against the Newberry Wolves this Saturday at 5:00 p.m. WHKY
