ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Foothills Conservancy transferred its 118-acre Burntfield Branch property to the U.S. Forest Service today—completing a multi-year effort to protect the land by adding it to Pisgah National Forest. The Globe-area tract offers 2,200 feet of Johns River frontage and rich forestland that supports over 200 species and new outdoor recreation opportunities. WHKY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Wednesday, October 15, Fourth Street NW in Hickory will be closed from Fourth Avenue NW to Seventh Avenue NW for a tree removal project starting at 8:30 a.m. and reopening by 3 p.m. (Detour routes are clearly marked.) WHKY
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Lenoir-Rhyne club weightlifter Ryan Grimsland set a new personal best and finished eighth at the World Weightlifting Championships on October 9 by lifting 152kg on his snatch and 190kg on his clean & jerk, totaling 342kg in the 79kg division. He was the second highest ranking American at the event. WHKY
- ➤ Lenoir-Rhyne men's soccer earned a 2-0 win at Wingate on October 9th after Daniel Martinez and Hector Taboada each scored a goal. The Bears recorded their first conference win at Wingate since 2017 — they will host the Coker Cobras at home Saturday night with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. WHKY
