ECONOMY NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the City of Hickory and the Catawba County Economic Development Corporation announced two Economic Development Agreements for companies to purchase space at the Trivium Corporate Center. Corning Optical Communications— a division of Corning Incorporated— agreed to expand operations with at least 132 new jobs and significant capital investments, while American Fuji Seal will create 20 jobs and invest at least $10M in facility improvements.  Go Foothills

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Eight Century Furniture employees took part in the Supervisory Certificate Program at CVCC to build new skills and support the company's value of collaboration & continuous improvement.  Hickory Daily Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Josh Stein announced that the Rural Infrastructure Authority approved 21 grant requests totaling $9,815,885 for local governments—two of which are in Hickory Metro—with projects that created 758 jobs, 489 of which were already announced. The Building Reuse Program funding is expected to attract more than $179 million in public and private investment.  WHKY

  • Lenoir-Rhyne swept Lincoln Memorial 3-0 on Friday night—Kayli Cleaver and Averie Dale led the team with strong kills and blocks—and the volleyball team will face UVA Wise at home Tuesday.  WHKY
