EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Hickory City Schools raised concerns that a possible school district merger (in Catawba County) could limit free breakfast and lunch for students. The district said the proposal may change meal eligibility if approved. Hickory Daily Record

- ➤ Catawba Riverkeeper is now searching for a new executive director to continue John’s team efforts in protecting the river—this role will build on the growth achieved over the past years and guide future conservation initiatives. Hickory Daily Record
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Lenoir-Rhyne volleyball team swept UVA-Wise on Tuesday with a win of 3 to 0 as Emmaleigh Allen led with 12 kills and the Bears improved to a 14 to 5 overall record in the South Atlantic Conference + they will host Coker for Dig Pink Day on Saturday at 2 p.m. + the game is part of their three-game home stand. - ➤ On Tuesday, high school volleyball playoffs in the area saw several teams finish their seasons while four teams advanced—specifically, the Wildcats, Blue Devils, Red Tornadoes, and Cougars will play in third round matches on Thursday. In the 1A game, the Dragons ended their season with a 10‑11 loss, and other contests in 3A, 4A, 5A, and 6A produced similar results. WHKY
- ➤ The Lenoir-Rhyne men's golf team ended their Fall schedule at the Fripp Island to Bermuda Invite in Beaufort, South Carolina on October 22, finishing 13th with a three-round score of 898 (+34) — Lee led as team champion, and Drew Zielinski earned individual medalist honors with a 207 (-9) over 54 holes. The team will return to play at the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate on February 9-10 in St. Augustine. WHKY
- ➤ On October 22nd, Lenoir-Rhyne hosted its free Bears Basketball Bash at Shuford Arena where students, faculty, alumni and local fans enjoyed athlete introductions, a 3-point shootout, dunk session and live performances. Local organizers celebrated the start of the men’s and women’s seasons with contests like a half-court shot challenge — energizing the Hickory community for the upcoming games. WHKY
