- ➤ North Carolina’s Second Harvest Food Bank will spend $500,000 to buy meal boxes for families in its 18-county service area — an effort to support food programs serving local residents — and will complete the purchase soon. Hickory Daily Record
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ On October 26, the Bears beat Mars Hill 45-0 as Tye Roberson returned the kickoff for a touchdown and the team earned its first shutout over Mars Hill since 1929—They improved to a 5-4 record and will face Wingate next week. WHKY
- ➤ At the East Regionals at Lake Norman on October 26, the Lenoir-Rhyne triathlon team finished second and secured their ticket to nationals for the fifth straight year—junior Zoila Sicilia won the individual DII title with a sprint time of 1:03:58, ranking her sixth overall among DI competitors. WHKY
- ➤ On Saturday, the Lenoir-Rhyne men's and women's cross country teams competed at the SAC Championships where the women placed sixth and the men placed 11th; Maria Carmona led by finishing 22nd among 103 runners. The teams will next race on November 8th at the NCAA Southeast Regional hosted by Wingate — a follow-up event to build on their championship performance. WHKY
- ➤ Lenoir-Rhyne's volleyball team defeated the Coker Cobras 3-0 on October 26 — Kayli Cleaver and Averie Dale combined for 19 kills and 10 blocks while Sydney Karjala led with 21 assists. The Bears will host Tusculum on Tuesday as they finish their three-match home stand. WHKY
