HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Catawba County Public Health’s Community Health Workers program won the 2025 GlaxoSmithKline Child Health award at the North Carolina Public Health Association conference — a sign that state officials value their work to improve child health — and the honor recognizes their important role in our community. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Hickory High Red Tornadoes volleyball team won the state 5A championship on Friday night at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem by defeating Seaforth, winning three sets to one. Emmi Gambill was named most valuable player and Ryan Hines received a sportsmanship award—completing a season with thirty-five wins and four losses and a perfect conference record of sixteen wins and zero losses. - ➤ Appalachian State men’s basketball will host the High Point Panthers on December 14 as part of the Hickory Hoops Classic at Lenoir-Rhyne’s Shuford Memorial Arena. Tickets will be available online with early access for club members and reserved seats at $25 plus general admission at $20—parking is limited. WHKY
