  • Today, Veterans Day events feature a ceremony in Lenoir at 11 a.m. at the American Legion Building at 401 North Main Street and a memorial with a statue dedication in Hickory at the Elks Lodge at 5 p.m. Local food spots offer deals for veterans — Applebee’s provides a free entree, Krispy Kreme offers a free coffee and donut, Buffalo Wild Wings serves ten boneless wings and fries, and Chipotle runs a buy one get one free offer.  WHKY

HEALTH NEWS

  • Frye Regional Medical Center earned eight Healthgrades distinctions, including the Outpatient Prostate Care Award — placing it among the top 10% of hospitals nationwide for outpatient prostate care.  Hickory Daily Record
  • The NC Department of Health and Human Services and NC Department of Agriculture are alerting providers, parents and caregivers about an infant botulism outbreak that led to a nationwide recall of ByHeart Inc. Whole Nutrition Infant Formula after 13 confirmed cases across 10 states and one suspected case in North Carolina. Retailers and online sources are removing recalled lots 206VABP/251261P2 and 206VABP/251131P2 with a use by 01 Dec—parents are advised to discard any formula from these lots to prevent illness.  WHKY

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Monday, November 10th, high school boys soccer saw Patton win 4 to 1 over Henderonsville, Newton-Conover win 4 to 0 over Burns, and Hickory beat Atkins 7 to 2. The Panthers, Red Devils, and Red Tornadoes advanced to the fourth round on Thursday—while the Warriors ended their season at 15-7-1 and games at Hibriten at Ashe County and between Alexander Central and A.C. Reynolds were moved to November 11th because of snow.  WHKY
